Some pictures (taken at OSU with the Titan STEM/TEM using TEM mode at 300keV):

CNTs, relaxed, after addition of proprietary iron complex. This allows "straightening" of the CNTs with an applied electrical potential, to make use of their > 1TPa tensile strength. The nano iron was added via a super critical CO2 process that involved dissolving the iron particles into the CO2, then relaxing the C atoms in the CNTs to allow infusion.

This one does a decent job of showing lattice fringes of the carbon nanotubes.

Application: reactive/smart multifunctional armor. My pet project. Amazing fun.

Just though I'd offer up something that wasn't depressing like school shootings, O-care, and so on.

One step closer to movie/video game type armor technology.

(In case anyone didn't quite follow that, CNT == carbon nanotube...)

I want a suit of Gothic plate armor made from that stuff. Just, you know, because.
