My local dealers don't have any S&W Model 640's in stock and looking.
Anyone here know someone that has one - name and number I can get my dealer to call?
640 or 640 Pro - either one.
Thanks in advance.

New or used? I might have a lead on a used one with Crimson Trace laser grips installed.

I have a used 640 Pro with CTC grips installed. I'd be willing to part with it for the right price, which is to say "a lot."

This one with CT LG 405's was cheaper than new retail. Not a scratch, box, paper work only 25 rounds fired.

$699. For a snubby. Even so, I was interested until I saw the lock.

That's why you buy the 640 Pro.

The 640 Pro has a no lock option? I did not know that. Thank you. I was getting ready to put some money down on a DAO SP101, but the 640 will fit all my snubby hoslters and I can get Denny Reichard to do a deluxe action job on one. I don't like shooting magnums out of any snubby, but I want something to compliment my 642.

640 Pro is no lock, cut for moon clips and has dovetailed Trijicon night sights.
I added a Apex spring kit and CT LG-405 laser grips and it's damn near perfect.

I like the ability to swap out the sights, but not sure how I feel about moonclips. I've never used them, but have heard mixed reviews, particularly when used on rimmed cartridges. As I don't plan on shooting magnums, I would want to be able to load, reliably shoot and extract the shorter .38's without use of the clips (just in case).

The Pro series is also a pricy snubby. That fearture alone may push it out of my reach. As I haven't seen any kind of 640 on the shelf in something like forever, my dilemma may be moot.

Moonclips are optional. You only use them if you want to.
The Pro also has the advantage of a full length ejector rod to reliably eject the shorter .38 casings.

Call me crazy, but I'd like to see S&W bring back a 940 in a lightweight configuration. With 9mm popularity on the rise again, I think it'd be a solid addition to the lineup.

Sounds like you found what you needed but Quantico Tactical in Junction City, Ks usually has a good supply of Smith snubs in stock.
