An Australian jeweler admits to manufacturing 100 Mac-10 style submachineguns in his house and selling them to biker gangs. (http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/jeweller-angelos-koots-admits-to-making-submachine-guns-at-his-seven-hills-home-and-supplying-them-to-bikie-groups/story-fni0cx12-1226760983916)

The guns look to be manufactured to a pretty high standard, cosmetically at least, but I don't see either a safety or a ROF selector. According to the article the guns fire at 600 rounds per minute - if true, this might actually be an improvement on the original. I am surprised that he went with the Mac-10 design for a homemade sub gun. A Sten or (bonus cool points!) Owen should have been easier to make, if not easier to conceal.

Sophisticated homemade weapons are pretty amazing to me - as someone who has trouble hanging pictures it's astounding to see what handy people can do with simple machine tools.

That guy had the advantage many other home made gun makers don't have, first off he ain't building guns in a cave.

About ten or twelve years ago, I read an article about an Aussie organized crime outfit that was busted manufacturing integrally-suppressed Owen guns. They also had an MP40.

If you are going to build your own guns then SMGs are the easiest to build yourself.

Yup. Few guns are as simple as an open-bolt tube gun. How many resistance cells made STENs under the Nazis' noses in WWII

Yup again. And if you weren't too picky and willing to use a smooth bore gun then they are even easier to build.

The VICE TV video about Afghanistan gun markets is pretty enlightening about what can be done with "primitive" technology.

Even the Nazi's produced the STEN!
