That looks like an incredibly fun way to waste a lot of ammo.

It's not wasted. The only way you get better with live competition and stress is to do it more frequently.

I meant waste entirely tongue in cheek. :)

Gotcha. I frequently miss online humor.

Imagine two equal shooters, going head to head, one has a 2s reload and the other has a 3s reload. The faster gets to reload AND flip some plates before the other guy finishes the reload.

That was awesome. Sorry I missed it. Was GS rocking the Glock again?

Yes, a 17. But it has a few problems related to the grip reduction and mags dropping free.

looks like a lot of fun, very cool video.

Every time I shoot steel I learn that simply putting the sights on the target and properly manipulating the trigger makes the plates go away, and tends to do so much faster than anything else.

...yet every time I go through an exercise like that I tend to completely ignore that lesson and instead smack the living bejeezus out of the trigger.

Who won?

I've never shot one of those before. Looks like fun!

In that run, GS won. Everybody won and lost on the tree multiple times. It's just the nature of what happens when we get together at the range. Todd tends to have an advantage, of course...shooting a handgun as your primary occupation has its benefits...but in that group if you aren't dialed in anyone can take you out on any given run on any given day.

The Vinninator and I did a couple of runs where we went through (IIRC) 3 mags trying to actually get all the plates on the other guy's side long enough to declare a win. It got so bad I did a chamber check before a run on the tree and a puff of smoke came rolling out of my P30's chamber. Reholstering a pistol that hot down the front of your pants is, by the way, generally a bad idea.

I may have won that stage, but lost plenty of other times. :o

A great time was had by all, and we all definitely challenged each other.

I, like some other shooters, had to give my Glock 17 a break, as it got very very hot.

It pains me deeply to live so far away. I'm lucky to get a hello at the range. I couldn't imagine how much better a shooter i'd be shooting with you guys all the time.

Practicing with people who can challenge you, and help spot deficiencies, is a wonderful thing.

I have been looking been looking into getting a tree for myself. What are the specs on the tree in the video? Plate size? Shoot Distance? Cost/where to buy? So many of the local options I can find seem to be rimfire only, or want a 15 to 20 yard stand off distance. Not saying I want to be 3 yards from steel when it gets his, but I would prefer 7 to 10.

BOM - Where do you shoot in ABQ? I get out there for business several times a year and usually travel with my gear.

I shot a dueling tree with an AR-15/.22lr conversion bolt in it against someone with a 1911 last year.

The .22lr rounds wouldn't move the plates by themselves, so I was forced to hose each plate till they moved.

It was a fine example of how fast can someone run a trigger, as I blasted my opponent in the face with .22lr brass like water from a hose.

He ended up laughing so hard that I was able to move a plate, change mags then transition to another plate...then the fucker knocked the plate I had just moved back with a .45ACP round back to my side for me to do again.

Good times. Next time I will have it for youtube.

Looks like more fun that I would have thought.

Don't know where they got their tree, but I've seen them at the following:
MTM Targets Tree (http://mgmtargets.com/tstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=48)
LE Targets Tree (http://www.letargets.com/estylez_ps.aspx?searchmode=category&searchcatcontext=~030000~030400)

That's a pretty significant price difference between the two...

Jakus, buy one and leave it at my place, so you won't have to haul it back and forth when you come up to the range...
