This is somewhat old, but I had to post this after ignoring this story for too many times this past week.

Iran carried out a hanging sentence on the man earlier this month in the northeast city of Bojnourd, according to human rights group Amnesty International. He was declared dead by a doctor but found a day later still alive in the morgue.

Amnesty has urged the Islamic Republic to halt the man's execution as well as all other death penalties.

Pourmohammadi said on Tuesday evening that efforts had been made to prevent another hanging.

"With great efforts made to not carry out a new execution of this convict ... we received a positive reply," Pourmohammadi said, according to state news agency IRNA. "The convicted individual who remained alive after execution is currently under an oxygen device, and if he remains alive, it is no longer expedient for the execution order to be carried out again."

I think they do the old "hoist 'em by the neck and let 'em strangle", rather than a short sharp drop to a snapped neck like the Western gallows, right?

I saw a photograph of a 16 year old girl they were going to hang for some offense against their barbarian sexual laws and they apparently were going to hoist her up with a crane. Bunch of kittening savages.

Funny, my first thought was that there's one thing the Muslims and Jews can agree on... the guy DIDN'T rise from the dead and he's NOT the second coming.

Bringin' people together. It's what I do.

Maybe we should use this technique at Gitmo, instead of the catch-and-release system we use today. Eh?

Yeah, that's a fun dream until you're the terrorist (http://www.webcitation.org/5gYPnOstE), dude.

The Eighth is right in there next to the Second, so let's not go treating the BoR like a smorgasbord, h'mkay?

Just because some politically motivated moran wants to bring unlawful combatants to NYC and read them Miranda doesn't mean I agree with that one bit.

http://www.cfr.org/international-law/enemy-combatants/p5312

The non-citizen detainees in Guantanamo have no right to habeas corpus relief in U.S. courts. See, e.g., Coalition of Clergy v. Bush, 189 F. Supp. 2d 1036 (C.D. Cal. 2002), affirmed on other grounds, 2002 U.S. App. LEXIS 23705 (9th Cir. Nov. 18, 2002).

Dude, this is America; we're humans here. If we have to put down a rabid pit bull we try to do it cleanly, for gawd's sake; we don't rub our hands in glee at the thought of torturing it. That's messed up.

Strongly agree.

Just had this discussion ref a serial rapist. When people say "They should do .... to that guy" I say that one doesn't mess around with a cancer, you remove it. Why take the time to burn the cancer with a lit cigarette and say nanner-nanner-nanner? Just cut it out.

I have a liberal anthropologist buddy at the uni that I enjoy slowly torturing, far more than I should. And torture, barbarism, and savagery has been a mainstay for lunch conversation for some time. It's amazing what lurks beneath our collective history and what we're capable of.

As I'm sure your liberal anthropologist buddy has told you, the enjoyment of torture in young people is a leading predictor of future serial killers.

All the time. Like a broken record.

Of course, then I tell him that statement is more appropriate from a psychiatrist, and that his "soft science" degree isn't really a degree. With that fuse lit, I step back and watch him spin off into the ether.

These lunches are usually followed by a pop-quiz in my class.

Muslims do believe that Jesus will come again, but since they don't think He died in the first place, they have a different concept of it.
