get a few samples, have a bunch of folks shoot each one for different drills, and collect opinions at the end of the day.

they are both good, reliable pistols, so pick one that most folks shoot well and that fits your budget.
And that's pretty much the process. So once again, what's your beef?

We went through the same thing back in 2015 when my then Chief, decided department issued weapons was the greatest thing ever.... Myself and the other range instructors set off on the test and evaluation of several pistols including the 320. Long story short, I headed the "issued weapons" thing off at the pass, thank god, but did get to spend a lot of time and rounds shooting various platforms. When our testing was over, it came down to the 320 and the Glock G17 and G19. Overall the 320 scored higher on ergonomics, and accuracy per shooter=officers that were picked to evaluate.

At the end of the evals, I purchased a 320, as did two other of our four range instructors. On top of that several other officers that participated in our testing, purchased their own P320's all but one were carrying glock prior to that. We have also had a few more officers pick up 320's and are now carrying them. Fast forward to today, and I have 2 320's my early 2015 model, which was one of the test guns by the way, and a more recent 2017 version. My 2015 has over 10k rounds through it, and my 2017 is approaching 6k rounds. I have not had a single failure. To my knowledge, none of the officers in the department have had a failure with their 320's at least none have occurred while training with us, or have been reported to me by them.

I agree the 320 is a relative new design, abeit an upgraded version of the 250, but it seems to be a solid platform. Only time will tell how it will hold up, but so far so good. They all have to start somewhere.

Good information, thanks for that. In the end, I suspect the decision has already been made at the top level, as most of these things usually are and all of this evaluation is merely a dog and pony show. Our current top brass really seems to be hung up on sitting at the cool kid table in the lunch room. They keep going to these national conferences and come home determined to set up task forces and specialty groups we just don't have the manpower for, all because similar agencies ten times our size have them. Since the P320 is the tactical hotness this week, if I had to lay money down it would be on that one. My favorite variant by far is the P320c. If we go with Sig I'll probably grab one of those for my own use.

Lol, yea every time the Chief attends a conference or some other sort of those in charge events, there is a whole list of new ideas and cool toys he wants to explore. Our new current chief, I forbid from going to these things without an escort, to prevent him from losing his mind. Our last chief, the one wanting department issues weapons, attended and event, and a few months later, I had to go pick up our new Zero Electric Motorcycle.....

Some people want to see for themselves. I know of a DHS outfit that is in the market for new handguns. They can easily piggy back off of the ICE contract (320), or the FBI contract (Glock). Instead, they choose to do things themselves. Good or bad? Who knows.

Boy have we come a long way in 2 short years, I vividly recall the condemnation I got in 2015 for predicting the 320 would be the pistol to finally break the glock stranglehold on the LE/GOV market after a quarter century of dominance, and now here we are. Although I have to admit it happened a lot faster and on a much larger scale than I thought, but it just goes to show, build it and they will come.

The 320 is shaping up to be a success, the PX4 has been embraced by the intelligentsia...... What's next, dogs and cats living together?

What a time to be alive. I never thought I would own a PX4 let alone be contemplating a second. I should have a P320 compact in the next couple months. Maybe one of these will finally result in me retiring the Glock 19 from carry.

I think it's kinda funny that after years of me being a gun hoarder with a "carry rotation" and "home defense rotation" with 9mm, .40, and 45 included, about a year and a half of posting on P-F got me standardized to 9mm for serious work, then finally standardized to a G17, G19, G26, and G43 with the same sights and ammo.

...then everyone on PF started using something else.
