New Mexico man shoots stepmom as she tried to give him hug during graduation ceremony: police
The woman was at a graduation ceremony for her son, when her stepson arrived and shot her in the neck

A New Mexico man shot his stepmother Wednesday as she was attempting to give him a hug during a high school graduation ceremony, authorities said.

The Albuquerque Police Department (APD) said it received a call around 5 p.m. about shots fired at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Authorities said the woman was attending the Southwest Secondary Learning Center graduation for her son. Her stepson, Christian Bencomo, 21, arrived and "as she started to hug him, he produced a handgun and shot her in the neck," police said.

“As you can imagine, there was a lot of chaos at the time," APD Communications Director Gilbert Gallegos told the media at the scene.

He said there were over 100 people at the charter school graduation ceremony at the time. The woman was rushed to a hospital and is expected to survive. Bencomo was held by bystanders until the police arrived, the APD said.

Jennifer Renfro, who was at the ceremony, told FOX Television Stations that the graduates had just received their diplomas, along with a rose to give to their "important person." She said she gave her son a hug, and then "heard a really loud pop."

"A lot of people thought it was a firecracker or a balloon. We all crouched down," she told the news outlet, adding that her daughter hid on the ground.

Bencomo is charged with unlawful carrying of a weapon, aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, aggravated battery with intent to cause great bodily harm to a family member and preventative detention, according to jail records at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center.

He is being held with no bail.

Ohio police fatally shoot Amazon warehouse guard who tried to kill supervisor, authorities say

A security guard trainee at an Amazon warehouse in Ohio was fatally shot by police after he tried to shoot his supervisor at close range and later shot an officer who was saved by his bulletproof vest, authorities said.

The initial shooting occurred around 4:40 p.m. Sunday at the warehouse in West Jefferson and was captured on surveillance footage, police said during a news conference Monday.

Ali Hamsa Yusuf, 22, came up behind the supervisor and pointed a gun at the supervisor’s head, police said, but the weapon apparently malfunctioned and the bullet barely missed the supervisor, who was not injured. There were more than 100 workers inside the building when the shooting occurred, officials said.

Yusuf soon fled the building but was spotted later Sunday in Columbus by Madison County authorities. Franklin Township and Columbus police tried to stop his vehicle a short time later, and Yusuf then left the vehicle and began firing at a Columbus officer, who authorities said was hit by a bullet but was not seriously injured due to his bulletproof vest.

Yusuf then tried to run away as other officers fired at him, and he was hit by at least one bullet. He was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later. The Columbus officer, identified only as a four-year veteran of the force, was treated at the hospital for minor injuries and released later Sunday.

Yusuf was not supposed to have a gun while on duty, police said. It's also not yet known why he tried to shoot his supervisor. Yusuf also had no known criminal history, authorities said.

Armed gunmen ambush prison van and free ‘France’s most wanted man’

    https://www.yahoo.com/news/watch-mom...171414078.html

"Security footage has captured the moment gunmen ambushed a prison van and freed a convicted drug trafficker dubbed “France’s most wanted man”.

Two police officers were killed as the police van and another police vehicle came under attack from “heavy weapons” on Tuesday. Two others remain in a “life-threatening” critical condition.

CCTV images from the A145 motorway near Rouen in northern France showed a black car swerving around oncoming traffic before ramming into the front of a prison van.

The car traps the van against the vehicle behind it at a toll gate before a group of hooded individuals emerge and surround the vehicle.

They appear to fire shots at the officers inside the van before forcing open the side door to free Mohamed Amra, 30, who reports say was the head of a narcotics network..."

"Police unions said their colleagues stood “no chance” given that they were travelling in an un-armoured van armed with simple hand guns against men carrying “weapons of war”.

Angie Harmon is suing Instacart and a former shopper who shot and killed her dog, Oliver

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Actor Angie Harmon has filed a lawsuit against Instacart and one of its former shoppers who fatally shot her dog in March while delivering groceries at her North Carolina home.

The lawsuit filed late last week in Mecklenburg County seeks to hold the shopper and Instacart liable for accusations of trespassing, gross negligence, emotional distress and invasion of privacy, among other allegations. It accuses Instacart of engaging in negligent hiring, supervision, retention and misrepresentation. The suit seeks monetary damages, to be determined at trial.
Instacart says the shopper has since been permanently banned from its platform.

Harmon is known for her work on TV shows including “Law & Order” and “Rizolli & Isles.” She told ABC News that it was “so unfathomable to think that there is somebody in your front driveway that just fired a gun.”

“I think Instacart is beyond responsible for all of this. This didn't have to happen," Harmon said in the interview that aired Wednesday on “Good Morning America.” ABC News described the dog as a “beagle mix.”

According to the complaint, Harmon ordered an Instacart groceries delivery from a Charlotte store on March 30. The Instacart app showed a shopper named Merle with a profile photo of an older woman, with whom Harmon believed she was exchanging text messages about her order, the lawsuit says.

Later that day, Harmon was upstairs filling her squirrel feeders when a “tall and intimidating younger man," not an older woman, showed up to deliver the groceries, the lawsuit says.

Harmon said she heard a gunshot sound and rushed outside. She found her dog, Oliver, had been shot, and saw the delivery person putting a gun into the front of his pants, according to the suit. Her teenage daughters, who had already been outside, were “in distress,” it says. The dog died at the veterinarian's office.
The shopper told police that he shot the dog after it attacked him, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told news outlets, adding that they did not pursue criminal charges.

In an Instagram post last month about the encounter, Harmon wrote that the shopper “did not have a scratch or bite on him nor were his pants torn.”

Instacart says it immediately suspended the shopper after receiving the report about the shooting, then later removed him permanently. The company says it runs comprehensive background checks on shoppers, prohibits them from carrying weapons and has anti-fraud measures that include periodically requiring them to take a photo of themselves to ensure the person shopping matches their photo on file.

“Our hearts continue to be with Ms. Harmon and her family following this disturbing incident," Instacart said in a statement. "While we cannot comment on pending litigation, we have no tolerance for violence of any kind, and the shopper account has been permanently deactivated from our platform.”

IME it's becoming increasingly common for individuals with problematic personal history such as felons and illegal aliens to drive for ride share and delivery services under other people's accounts. The account holder usually gets a 15-20% kickback and the person doing the driving get the balance.

It has been an issue for a long time. Uber used to make its drivers take selfies every so often and its facial recognition software would verify the identity. But because facial recognition software doesn't work as well on dark skin, it lead to racial discrimination lawsuits from drivers whose accounts were suspended.

Damn, It’s getting to the point that the affluent can’t rely on the cavalcade of complete and total strangers coming to their homes to do all their grunt work for them any more. What’s a body to do.

Maybe the instacart shopper was Kristi Noem in drag.

(With all due respect to the beagle—who almost certainly did nothing to deserve this).
