There's a lot to sort out from the Clark Co, WA incident. I think it would be a good incident to examine briefly at roll call or in-detail during formal UoF training session.

Bodycam Footage From Fatal Shooting of Man Who Attacked U.S. Marshals With Table Leg and Knife
Lorain, Ohio — On April 18, 2024, just after 8:00 a.m., the U.S. Marshals‘ Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force officers went to the Lorain home of 34-year-old Derrick Smith to serve a federal arrest warrant at a house in the 900 block of West 21st Street. Smith was wanted for violating federal parole, stemming from a drug trafficking case. When officers arrived and attempted to take Smith into custody in an upstairs bedroom, he assaulted the task officers with a wooden table leg and stabbed one of the task force officers three times in the neck with a knife. Officers attempted to subdue Smith with the use of a Taser, but that proved unsuccessful as the situation escalated. Smith hit one of the officers with the table leg before shots were fired. It is unclear how many officers fired their weapons at Smith or how many bullets struck him. Three task force officers were treated at Mercy Health and released the same day. According to Lorain Police, Smith was shot in the head, both arms and torso. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The drive by is… different.
Is he trying to turn on the EoTech ?
Officer Fires Gun Through Windshield in Wild Police Shootout With Suspect
Green Bay, Wisconsin — On Friday, February 23, 2024, at 12:56 p.m., the Green Bay Police Department received a 911 call indicating that a subject had brandished a gun at the complainant. The male complainant later gave a statement to law enforcement indicating that a man, later identified as 40-year-old Steve Ventura, had exited a red vehicle and pointed a gun at the complainant. The complainant observed Ventura turn around and get back in the red vehicle. The complainant then called 911 and advised dispatch about what happened. The complainant then followed the red vehicle and remained on the call with dispatch. He then observed a Green Bay Police Department patrol vehicle, which was driven by Officer Daniel Skenandore. The complainant waved to the officer and flashed his high beams in order to get the officer’s attention.
Officer Skenandore did observe both the complainant’s vehicle and the red vehicle operated by Ventura. Officer Skenandore conducted a U-turn, crossing over the median and began following the vehicles. Officer Skenandore followed the two vehicles as they turned left onto Green Ridge Drive. At that point, the complainant’s vehicle pulled over to the side of the road and allowed Officer Skenandore to go past him. Officer Skenandore noted that the red vehicle, driven by Ventura, continued at a slow rate of speed and came to a stop in the middle of the road on Green Ridge Drive. Ventura then exited the vehicle and produced a black handgun and pointed it at Officer Skenandore. Officer Skenandore then ducked and drew his own duty handgun.
Officer Skenandore discharged his duty weapon through the windshield at Ventura. Officer Skenandore then began driving at a faster rate of speed in order to get to a safer location, while informing dispatch that shots had been fired and that he needed assistance. Officer Skenandore retrieved his patrol rifle and exited his vehicle. He could still see Ventura standing on the side of the street and he could see an object in his hands. Officer Skenandore fired what he estimated to be two rife rounds at Ventura. Officer Skenandore observed Ventura then retreat out of sight to the west of where he was originally standing. Officer Skenandore took cover behind a van, then a tree, then another vehicle, as other officers began to arrive on scene.
Shortly after other officers arrived on scene, they heard screams from a woman later determined to be Ventura’s girlfriend, who lived at the residence immediately to the west of where Ventura’s vehicle was stopped in the street. As officers approached the residence, Ventura was observed on the ground in the front yard of his girlfriend’s residence with an apparent gunshot wound to his head. Several officers heard Ventura’s girlfriend state that Ventura had shot himself in the head. Ventura was later transported to St. Vincent Hospital where he was pronounced deceased not long after arrival. Physical evidence recovered from the scene suggests that Ventura discharged his handgun at least three (3) times. Officer Skenandore discharged a total of eighteen (18) rounds from his duty handgun, and at least seven (7) rounds from his duty rifle.
The good news is no innocent citizens or officers were injured or killed (even though the officer used an occupied mini van for cover). Sadly, really poor performance is seen more frequently than not in a lot of the OIS BWV these days. I suppose that is due to a number of reasons.
Houston Police Officers Shoot 2 Men During a Gun Battle in Texas
Prairie View, Texas — On April 9, 2024, around 4:15 p.m., the Houston Police Department, Southeast Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team officers were actively searching for a suspect with multiple felony warrants in the area near at 45240 U.S. Highway 290 Business. Officers located a parked white sedan and positively identified the suspect sitting in the front passenger seat with two other persons inside. As officers approached the sedan and attempted to make contact with the wanted suspect, he jumped out of the vehicle and started shooting at officers.
Officers returned fire and the suspect was struck. The driver of the vehicle, armed with a gun, also exited the vehicle and was struck by gunfire from the officers. Both adult male suspects, 19 and 20, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and were transported via Life Flight helicopter to the hospital, one in critical and the other in stable condition. HPD Officers S. Lusk and S. Quian, who discharged their duty weapons, were not injured in the incident. Both officers are assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division and were sworn in as officers in July 2019.
Prairie view is a suburb of Houston.
They were not patrolling. the “ Crime suppression” team is a proactive /targeted enforcement unit. They were out looking for this specific individual who had multiple felony warrants. They either developed info their target was there or they followed/chased him over there from Houston.
If your target is in a neighboring jurisdiction, it’s common to go get them with appropriate courtesy and DeConfliction notifications. At least with regard to felonies.
