Broadly speaking, the CX4s I am personally acquainted with have functioned and held up quite well overall over time (much to my surprise). And as much as I have complained about the CX4's negatives - primarily the oddly inferior feel to the whole firing sequence - the dumb things might really be my best option at this point in time. I just find the PC9 a little bit more pleasant to shoot.
    FWIW-
I took my CX4 to the range earlier this week and shot my usual carbine drills with it. I was shooting my IDPA load (147 gr at 890 fps out of my B92).
The CX4 was crazy-easy to shoot. With earpro on (indoor range), it sounded and felt like a suppressed subsonic 300 BLK. Almost like a .22.
I hadn’t shot it in a couple of years, and had forgotten how pleasant it is to use.
BTW, I’m a lefty, and mine is set up for right-handed use with the ejection port a few inches in front of my nose. I’ve not found that to be unpleasant in any way. Maybe it would be different if suppressed.
Mine has had basic trigger work by Sierra Papa, and has a PA RDS mounted, but it otherwise bone stock.
I am contemplating the Sierra Papa mod to add a buffer tube and AR-type adjustable stock, mostly to free up the pistol grip by eliminating the “thumbhole” design. That mod is evident on the front page of the sierrapapacx4.com website.

Always between two major rivers that begin with the letter "M."
I keep checking to see if there is anything new with this project... and will continue to do so for a while.

Marlin (Ruger) has pushed their 1894 SBL in .357 out a bit, now saying the intro is going to be "Summer 2024." This is unwelcome news, as I intend to buy my last pistol-caliber carbine sometime before the end of 2024 and any slippage sucks.

Be that as it may, should the Marlin be unobtanium for the balance of the year, I have decided to either get a Ruger PC9 or a Beretta CX4 (which takes 92 magazines). I have not lived with either of those two carbines in a long-term relationship, and their pros and cons essentially leave me on the fence.

    For now.

Beretta 92 remains the most popular type of the aftermarket adapter for Ruger PC and Henry Homesteader (in U.S.). Obviously Glock is the dominant type.
