Halestorm is growing on me. Of the more modern bands, I'm getting really into Avenged Sevenfold. They remind me a lot of Metallica and GnR when they were rocking the 80s. Slipknot and Stone Sour, and Tool as well, but they're not exactly new band either.

Other bands seem to have a good song here and there, but don't have the consistency to do it again and again. Maybe Mudvayne.

Popular music hit it's apex when Michael Bolton crooned "When a Man loves a Woman"....

For my money, it doesn't get any better.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Not quite "new", but Cacophony's "Speed Metal Symphony" is near the top of my "all-time greatest shred" albums list.

A sampling of this album. This band had Jason Becker and Marty Friedman as the guitarists. Unfortunately Jason developed Lou Gehrig's Disease and his career ended. Marty went on to do a ten-year stint in Megadeth starting with Rust In Peace and leaving after Risk.

Not much into the speed metal as I age, gracefully, I might add. I share OP's tastes in rock, but lately I've been getting more into Theory of a Dead Man & Five Finger Death Punch. Still lovin' me some good old Danzig too.

All good bands, for sure. "I Hate My Life" was the anthem of my previous job.

After making fun of Danzig for at least a decade I actually listened to his stuff. It's surprisingly great.
