    Week 78: 300

Please read the rules before participating in this thread.

    Week 78: 300
results may be posted until 11:59pm EST on Friday 23-August-2013.

    Range: 25yd
Target: B8 replacement center (download pdf here, courtesy Tom Jones)
    Start position: any
    Rounds fired: 30

Time to dial things back after weeks of going fast, faster, fasterer.

Using the provided B8 replacement, fire a ten-shot group at 25yd with no time limit and your normal 2-handed grip. Add up the score for all ten shots. Keep in mind that the "7" ring is visible but not identified, and the four corners of the target are technically the "6" ring. For hits on the line between two scoring zones, use the higher scoring value only if the grease ring of the bullet hole cuts the line between the two zones. Tears and other marks that are greater than the bullet's diameter do not count for scoring. Shots that do not hit the sheet of paper score zero. Do not use a standard B8 target, as it will give you more scoring area than the pdf provides.

Then repeat on a second target but shooting strong hand only.

Then repeat on a third target weak hand only.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:
    • score for each string of fire
    • total score

Ran this DOTW for both of the above as part of my ongoing Shield project. After these results, I ran the OH portion again for each, represented by OH2. Still fighting those M&P triggers.

Gen 3 Glock 17, HD sights, Aguila 124

    Freestyle 97

    Dominant hand 88

    Support hand 91

Total 276 (forgot to count X's but not enough)

Kevin B inspired me to grab a G22 and a Pizza gun, and YVK has been pestering me since he got an Elite. I shot some sight in rounds with the Elite, the first since I got the pistol, and need to make a sight correction. Wow, it shoots small groups and it made me gag on the Glock trigger afterwards. Hope to get time to do the G22 and Elite later.

Gen 4 G22, Speer Lawmen TMJ ammo, Warren sights, KKM barrel

    Freestyle 97

    Strong hand 94

    Support hand 91

    Total 282

Interestingly, afterwards I shot my carry ammo in AK, the 200 hard cast DT load, and it was substantially more accurate than the Lawmen. I find the Vogelish grip I use with the 17 doesn't work as well with .40, as my grip wants to break, and I need my support hand further back, more joined with my dominant hand.

I would have expected to shoot the 17 better than the 22, given how much I shoot the 17, and its less recoil -- I wonder if this is a Gen 4 versus 3 accuracy thing.

Beretta shipped the Elite II with the front sight offset left considerably in the dovetail, and between being unable to adjust windage enough, and the pistol shooting low with the rear sight, I gave up trying to do the DOW with the pizza gun -- sorry, YVK.
