    Request for information: mid-Atlantic

After living and working in The people's republic of Maryland for my whole life, I recently changed jobs to one in western Maryland. This gives me the option to relocate to one of four states. Now, I vowed two decades ago to never, ever buy another house in Maryland. So, for practical purposes I have three states where I could relocate.
Virginia is my first choice, but leaves the commute longer. West Virginia and Pennsylvania offer shorter commutes.

What does the collective wisdom here have to say concerning gun rights, taxes, health care, etc.?

Ps. I live in an absolutely beautiful area in Maryland now and am constantly infuriated by the mental midget socialists in Annapolis....... But that ship has sailed......

WV has great gun rights, but their CCW permits only allow you to carry a 'pistol or revolver'. Not a big deal, as most people I know don't CCW their SBRs, but there it is.

I live in Virginia but Pennsylvania gun laws are about the same as Virginia (except for Philly).
They have open carry and concealed carry, must issue.

Plus, lots of IDPA and USPSA matches across the State.

If you are anywhere near Bedford, PA check out the Bedford Shooting Club....excellent pistol club.

Having lived in the DC Metro area for quite a while, if I had to pick one of those states, it would hands down be VA. PA's gun laws might be good now, but if I had had to bet money on which one of those states would be most likely to pass Maryland-esq gun laws 10 years from now, PA would be it. When picking a state to live in based on gun laws, never head North (unless it's all the way North like me).

Plus the fact that Virginia Arms is in VA gives it 1,000 bonus points IMHO.

I've been there once, it's a nice place.

If you don't get a good answer, PM Chris Rhines, he shoots for them and is an active member here.

Come on over to Virginia. We have great gun laws and plenty of places to shoot. As a former Marylander, you'd be most welcome here.

I am going there tomorrow for an IDPA and USPSA match.
It is a fantastic range: long range rifle, sporting clays, tactical bays, you name it.
They also have a gun shop and great people run it.
    Also affordable.
