Week 60 -- Slow Fire Marksmanship

Please read the rules before participating in this thread.

Week 60: Slow Fire Marksmanship (aka 300 pt aggregate)
results may be posted until 11:59pm EST on Monday 07-January-2013.

    Range: 25yd
Target: B8 replacement center (download pdf here, courtesy Tom Jones)
    Start position: any
    Rounds fired: 30

Using the provided B8 replacement center, fire a ten-shot group at 25yd with no time limit and your normal 2-handed grip. Add up the score for all ten shots. Keep in mind that the "7" ring is visible but not identified, and the four corners of the target are technically the "6" ring. For hits on the line between two scoring zones, use the higher scoring value only if the grease ring of the bullet hole cuts the line between the two zones. Tears and other marks that are greater than the bullet's diameter do not count for scoring. Shots that do not hit the sheet of paper score zero. Do not use a standard B8 target for this drill, as it will give you more scoring area than the repair center provides.

Then repeat on a second target but shooting strong hand only.

Then repeat on a third target weak hand only.

Please report the following when you post your results in this thread:
    • score for each string of fire
    • total score

    Using a G19 w/RMR02 firing Fed AE9FP 147 gr FMJ:

    2H = 99-2x
    SH = 90-2x
    WH = 94-2x

My wife (CAM) and I did this today. Temperature was a balmy 18F, with sunshine and light winds.

Me, Glock 34, Aguila 124 ball.
    string 1 = 92
    string 2 = 91
    string 3 = 81

    Total 264 5x

my wife, CAM, Glock 17, Aguila 124 ball
    string 1 = 96
    string 2 = 87
    string 3 = 97 (amazing target here with 6x)

    Total 280 10x

Since I am messing around with a P30 during the cold months, I repeated it with a P30 LEM and Aguila 124 ball

    string 1 = 97
    string 2 = 93
    string 3 = 71 (bombed this string)

    Total 261 7x

Interesting story here on the Gen 3FDE G17 my wife was shooting. This has been a very accurate pistol, with a great trigger, but was never reliable, even with several extractor changes, the 30274 ejector, and the Apex extractor. I sent the pistol to Randy Lee, he used it to design the Gen 3 specific Apex extractor, and then sent it back. We thought this drill would be a great reliability test with the precision one hand shooting, which tends to be a scenario where stoppages can occur. Good news is no stoppages thru the drill and for the several hundred rounds she shot today. Thank you, Randy Lee!

This morning, to gather data, I decided to go out and repeat the drill with my Gen 4, Glock 17/RMR with Aguila ammo, to assess the benefit of the RDS on this exercise. It was cold, but sunny with no wind.

    Sunshine, calm, 5 degrees F

    Glock 17/RMR, Aguila 124 ball
    string 1 = 100 7x
    string 2 = 98 5x
    string 3 = 97 4x

    Total 295, 16X

Then for giggles, I shot a Sig 226 I got in the last year for the purpose of learning TDA, and shot it with Aguila ball, since I thought this is a great trigger control exercise:

    Sig 226R, Aguila 124 ball
    string 1 = 86, 1x
    string 2 = 95, 4x
    string 3 = 94, 0x

    Total 275, 5x

I shot this three times yesterday. Gen3 G34, Ameriglo Defoor sights, 124gr Cleanfire Blazer.

    Freestyle: 90 - 2x
    SHO: 88 - 1x
    WHO: 90 - 1x
    Total: 268 - 4x

    Freestyle: 93
    SHO: 84 - 1x
    WHO: 80 - 1x
    Total: 257 - 2x

    Freestyle: 86 - 2x
    SHO: 88 - 1x
    WHO: 87
    Total: 261 - 3x

Got enough data for the end of year performance challenge.

GJM, that really is an astounding increase in long range accuracy going from your iron-sighted G34 to the RDS G17.

Obviously I need to work on WHO/SHO. But on the bright side, lots of room for improvement!

G34 shooting 115gr PMCbronze, I shot this on the standard target because I forgot my repair centers and these are all the range had, I only scored what fell within the area of a repair center though.
    2H- 92-3

    SHO-78-2

    WHO- 74-1

    Total- 244-6

I really need to work distance with my Glock.
