The ordering process for these is a little strange. You can't pre-order, it seems you have to watch the website and place an order as soon as one becomes available.

But that grip safety is very different from the originals.

I'd say people will buy these because they are a limited run unto themselves and not necessarily because they are not an exact copy of the originals.

Personally I'd get this one before buying the 2024 MEUSOC.

*it does say only 25 will be produced in 2023. Does that mean no more will come or just no more in that year? I assume future runs, if any, will have some slight variance to denote a later production run.

Which originals though? There were several iterations of the MEUSOC pistol with different parts. I'm no expert on the subject though, and your observation might be on the money.

I'd like to see a Swenson reproduction too. When I was young I would read the various gun rags of the day and almost drool on the pictures of custom 1911 pistols, especially Swenson 1911s'.
