When the TLR-9 came out my first reaction was “why?”.

After thinking about it and reading some discussions I realized there actually were a few advantages compared to other WMLs. These include:

  • Ability to run 16650s or 2x CR123s for duty-level output (not sure what throw is compared to X300Us and TLR-7s on the other end (sorta) of the spectrum).
  • Thinner profile for less access to the trigger in the holster
  • Ability to remove the battery(ies) without removing the light.
  • Consistency in operation with the TLR-7A, which is, in my opinion the best compact WML out right now.

Things I don’t like:

  • Push-button electronic switching vs: manually operated toggle.
  • No ability to use a pressure switch.

It seems each company that comes out with a new light solves “some” of the issues and brings new technology or power or whatever but no one has made something that simply obsoletes everything else. Until someone does there’s no way standardization is going to happen.
Strange they offer a TLR7 pressure switch but not TLR9
