    I tend to default to Hanlon's razor on most user-facing things, but it's definitely something that I'd run up the corporate ladder if I became aware of it happening.

    Just reformat the drive and turn it in. That's what they will do anyway.

    Yes, it IS what they will do.

    But... they may want to make a backup of it first, for whatever reason (regulatory, for example).

    The more I think about this, the more I'd recommend against deleting anything unless you have permission to do so. I would ask the IT team before deleting data.

    Thanks for the advice and suggestions everyone. After speaking with our IT I'm going to wipe the drive and call it good.

    So what? We (a very large organization) keep/maintain manufacturer warranties on all of our in-service hardware.
