Yeah, I feel your pain there. Plus, I have many lights, myself.
In other news, this one is personally disconcerting because it's in my own part of town: I drive and walk by this place all the time; Lady K and myself toured it when it was on the market before the deceased purchased it (out of our price range, though). The most bothersome facts are #1) the perp is still at large as I type this and, #2) the homeowner is reportedly a retired construction company owner, just an old guy and his wife. It's often said that avoiding home invasion is largely staying out of the drug trade, but the last several involving gunfire in my burg have all seemed to be random targets of opportunity. This place is on a busy residential street, and has lots of glass; my fear is that being visible was the victim's only mistake.

Man shoots 2 would-be robbers in Monroe (N.C.)
This one has everything in it:
1) sitting in the vehicle with doors unlocked and not watching surroundings
2) grappling over the gun
3) jerking the trigger (one man shot in groin)
MONROE, N.C. — Monroe police said a man who shot two would-be robbers outside a Union County chicken plant will not face charges.
Police said Tyson Foods employee Terry Campbell was acting in self-defense when he shot Jarvis Miller and Jermaine Blakeney just after 5:15 a.m. Friday.
Investigators said the men approached Campbell as he was sitting in his car in the Tyson parking lot after finishing his overnight shift.
Detectives said the suspects opened Campbell's door and began pistol-whipping him, until Campbell was able to grab his own gun and fire at them.
"One suspect was shot multiple times, the other was shot once. Both were transported to Carolinas Medical Center Main," said city spokesman Pete Hovanec.
Police said Campbell then grabbed the men's gun from the ground and drove to a nearby gas station to call for help.
Detectives said Miller and Blakeney will face criminal charges soon. On Friday night, they were recovering at the hospital.
