71 year old with CCW puts down dude trying to rob his wife.
Witnesses say a 71-year-old man used self defense when he shot a man who was trying to rob his wife outside a grocery store Tuesday night.

Around 7:20 p.m. on Oct. 28, police were called to the Aldi Grocery Store at 3128 Forest Lane. While husband Ronnie Lummus and his wife were leaving the store, 36-year-old Mike Angel Carmillio approached them and grabbed a necklace off the woman's neck.

Police say Carmillio then reportedly knocked the woman to the ground and attempted to rob her...

Thanks for posting that, I saw it and meant to before I got distracted.

Interesting incident. Victim shot the bad guy after the robbery was committed and the bad guy was fleeing in a vehicle from the scene. Texas Penal Code 9.42. states that a person is justified in using deadly force against another to protect their tangible, movable property "when and to the degree he reasonably believes the deadly force is immediately necessary...to prevent the other who is fleeing immediately after committing burglary, robbery, aggravated robbery, or theft during the nighttime from escaping with the property; and...he reasonably believes that the land or property cannot be protected or recovered by any other means; or...the use of force other than deadly force to protect or recover the land or property would expose the actor or another to a substantial risk of death or serious bodily injury."

Which is a fairly reasonable concept, I think, given human nature, but one that a lot of other states don't accept - so this gent should be thanking his lucky stars he lives in Texas.

A trooper of my acquaintance involved in the manhunt noted that the guy was arrested with the murdered officer's cuffs.

He also stated that he had sort of gotten used to being in the woods over the last 6 weeks or so of looking for this guy, and was considering taking up hunting for the first time as a result.

Batman bandit foiled in attempted robbery of armoured vehicle

The pseudo-superhero was carrying a gun when he walked up to the vehicle as the guards were unloading their cargo at the Royal Bank located at 790 Sackville Dr., RCMP report. According to a media release, the guards “reacted to the suspect causing him to flee the scene.” The evil doer was last seen making his getaway in an unlikely batmobile, a dark-coloured minivan. No one was hurt during the failed heist.
