Boy was 7 when he shot, killed stranger for no reason, officials say
The boy, now 10, told investigators he shot a sleeping man at a Gonzales County RV park in 2022.

A 10-year-old admitted to shooting and killing a man in a Gonzales County RV park more than two years ago, and told investigators he didn’t know the man and had no reason to kill him, according to the Gonzales County Sheriff's Office.

Brandon O'Quinn Rasberry, 32, was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head on Jan. 18, 2022, in his RV at Lazy J RV Park in Nixon, about 45 miles east of downtown San Antonio.

An autopsy found he'd been shot once in the head and had two minor graze wounds, one on each hand, and had been dead for approximately two days, the Gonzales County Sheriff's Office said. All leads were exhausted in an investigation that followed, and the case remained unsolved.

Last Friday, the sheriff's office received a call from the Nixon-Smiley Consolidated Independent School District, reporting that a 10-year-old student had threatened to assault and kill another student on a bus the day before. When a deputy arrived, school officials reported the boy had also claimed he shot and killed a man two years ago.

During an interview with investigators, the boy reported that he was visiting his grandfather on Jan. 16, 2022, who lived at the same RV park as Rasberry, a few lots away, the sheriff's office said.

The child, who was seven years old at the time, said he took a pistol from the glove box of his grandfather's truck and entered Rasberry's RV, where he found the man sleeping in his bed. He told the investigators he shot him once in the head, and then as he was leaving the RV fired a shot into the couch, the sheriff's office said. He said he returned the gun to the truck after he left.

In the interview, the boy said he'd never met Rasberry and didn't know him, but had seen him walking around that day.

The child was also asked if he was mad at Brandon for some reason or if Brandon had ever done anything to him to make him mad," the sheriff's office said, and the boy said no.

The pistol was located at a pawn shop last Friday, and a forensic analysis involving shell casings from the crime scene confirmed the gun was used to kill Rasberry, the sheriff's office said.

The boy, whose name was not released, will not be charged in connection with the 2022 shooting, because Texas law doesn't allow for criminal culpability before the age of 10, Gonzales County officials said. He will face charges of making a terroristic threat related to the school bus incident last week.

The boy was placed on a 72-hour emergency detention "because of the severity of the crime and because of the continued concern for the child's mental wellbeing," the office said. He was then taken to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation and treatment, then placed in detention by Gonzales County Juvenile Probation to await his court date.
Rasberry worked for Holmes Foods, a poultry processing plant in Nixon, and had moved his RV to the park four days before he was found dead, the sheriff's office said.

According to his obituary, he was born in Brenham.

LaBelle man faces attempted premeditated murder charges for ramming into Lee County deputy’s home, opening fire

A LaBelle man rammed into a Lee County deputy's home and fired multiple gunshots on the morning of Sunday, Apr. 14.

The Hendry County Sheriff's Office and crime scene investigators responded to reports of gunshots fired in the area of Springview Circle, Port LaBelle.

32-year-old Derek Evan Weber drove through the garage of a Lee County deputy's home and opened fire with a 9 mm handgun at 11:30 a.m.

He reportedly fired over 16 rounds while sitting on the right side of his car.

Although the deputy was not on duty, his patrol car was in the driveway. He and his son were inside the home at the time.

Both Lee and Hendry County sheriff's offices believe this was a targeted attack.

Weber and the deputy are said to be neighbors and live a couple of houses down from each other.

LCSO said the deputy jumped into action to protect his family. No injuries were reported.

Weber was quickly apprehended in the neighborhood.

According to the Hendry County Sheriff's Office, he slashed all tires on the deputy's patrol car and damaged the windshield on Saturday. He also allegedly shattered windows and slashed tires on two of the deputy's personal cars.

The Lee County deputy is currently on paid administrative leave. He and his family are doing well, according to LCSO.

Weber is currently in custody at the Hendry County Jail. He faces the following charges:

    First-degree attempted premeditated murder
    Burglary
    Damage of property
    Criminal mischief
Firing a weapon from a vehicle
Firing a weapon into a building
Firing a weapon in or on residential property
Displaying a firearm during a felony
    Aggravated assault with a weapon

To be formally charged with first-degree murder, Weber will need to be indicted by a grand jury. Additionally, an individual can be charged with murder even if a person was not killed.

This incident is still an ongoing investigation between the Lee and Hendry County sheriff's offices.

I really don't like advocating this, but maybe a lot of time, aggravation and lives may be saved by drowning this kid.
If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

We used to ride through LaBelle on a regular basis when we were still living and motorcycling around South FL. Fun area to explore on two wheels.

SAPD: 2 dead, 4 injured in shooting at Market Square on final night of Fiesta
Two officers fired their weapons after two people began shooting at each other, SAPD said

Two people were killed and four others injured during a shooting at Market Square early Sunday morning as Fiesta San Antonio came to a close, San Antonio police said.

I’m on the scene of an (officer-involved shooting) that occurred just before the end of the Market Square Fiesta event. The two individuals who were shooting at each other are deceased. Four others received non-life threatening injuries. No officers were injured,” SAPD Chief William McManus wrote on X around 2 a.m.

Two SAPD officers returned fire after the shots rang out, McManus said.

An SAPD spokesperson told KSAT that “two were transported with non-life-threatening injuries and the other two were checked out and released at the scene.”

Initial reports were that the incident started when two young men opened fire at the event, but police haven’t yet provided more details.

Videos posted by witnesses showed people crouching and running during the chaos.
It isn’t immediately clear whether the people killed or injured were hit by gunfire from the suspects or police.
SAPD initially said six people were injured but later corrected that information to four people.
