Federal agents were involved in a shootout early Tuesday as they tried to serve a search warrant at the Little Rock home of the person who leads the Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport, authorities said.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said agents were trying to serve the warrant just after 6 a.m. at a home in west Little Rock when someone inside the home fired gunshots at the agents. The agents returned fire, striking the shooter, who was identified as Bryan Malinowski, 53, the executive director for the airport.

Malinowski was treated at the scene before being taken to an area hospital, Arkansas State Police said. His condition was not immediately available later Tuesday.

An ATF agent, whose identity was not released, was also shot in the exchange of gunfire but suffered a non-life-threatening wound, officials said. The agent, too, was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Seems the director was prominent in gun shows. To be charged with Excessive Wheeling and Dealing, maybe.

Released search warrant affidavit shows details of ATF case against Little Rock airport executive Bryan Malinowski

    Snippet:
In the heavily redacted warrant affidavit, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives claims that Bryan Malinowski purchased numerous firearms that he resold without a firearm dealer’s license.

Bryan Malinowski, the Little Rock airport executive shot by ATF agents, dies from injuries
According to the warrant, Malinowski purchased more than 150 guns between May 2021 and Feb. 27, 2024, which he then resold.

Why do obviously intelligent people do obviously stupid actions that lead to an obviously no win shoot out? I should look at Psych Abstracts.

The search Warrant affidavit makes a pretty strong case for this individual acting as an unlicensed dealer.

He was making a good salary in an area that does not have a high cost-of-living so it doesn’t appear he needed the money, but sometimes people do things just for the thrill.

The suspects Brother has been making public complaints about the execution of the warrant and why they didn’t just “arrest” the suspect at work or an offsite location.

However, based on publicly available information, I’m not seeing any indication that there was an arrest warrant for the suspect just a search warrant for the residence and the vehicle.

Search warrants are an investigative tool used during the course of an investigation, not necessarily the conclusion of an investigation.

It is not uncommon in long-term investigations to execute a search warrant and obtain evidence particularly electronics which will require forensic review, without making an immediate arrest.

Regarding serving the search warrant at 6 AM, The federal rules of criminal procedure define “the hours of daylight “as 6 AM through 10 PM. Federal warrants may be served during those hours. Federal warrants can be served outside those hours if the issuing magistrate authorizes night /any time service, though the need for such has to be articulated.

..."Two men allegedly killed by an Idaho inmate who escaped custody this week with the help of an accomplice have been identified.

James L. Mauney, 83, and 72-year-old Gerald "Don" Henderson were killed near their homes during the massive manhunt for Skylar Meade, who escaped from Idaho Department of Corrections custody, allegedly with assistance from Nicholas Umphenour, Idaho State Police said. The two suspects were captured on Thursday.

The homicide victims were discovered in Nez Perce and Clearwater, police said.

Mauney, of Juliaetta, was walking his two dogs when police said he and the animals were driven eastbound in his silver 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. Police didn't specify who drove the vehicle with Mauney and the dogs inside to a desolate area near Leland, near the Washington border. Law enforcement located the abandoned vehicle and said they later found Mauney's body nearby. Police said it appears Mauney did not know the suspects.

Police found Henderson's body outside of his home in a secluded area near Orofino, which is about 60 miles from the Washington border. Police said Mauney's dogs and a pair of shackles they believe belong to Meade were found at Henderson's house. Police said they believed Henderson knew the suspects but didn't know how well or for how long. Officials said they gave the dogs back to Mauney's family..."

So those felons carjacked and killed a guy who was walking his dogs in (unless its changed since I visited Juliaetta about 20 years ago) a very rural part of Idaho, about 6 hours from the prison that they broke out of.

Not that anyone here probably needs it, but what a reminder to carry, lock your doors, etc.

Coroners on Friday identified the victim in Nez Perce County as James L. Mauney, 83, of Juliaetta, who was reported missing on Wednesday when he left home in his silver Chrysler Pacifica minivan to take his two dogs — a white Jack Russell terrier and a brown Chesapeake Bay retriever — to a walking path.

    . . .

After fleeing Boise in a stolen Honda Civic, detectives believe Meade and Umphenour drove north through Idaho and encountered Mauney as he walked his dogs near Juliaetta. Mauney and his dogs were taken and driven eastbound in his silver 2019 Chrysler Pacifica. On Wednesday, in a desolate area near Leland, law enforcement located the abandoned Honda Civic and later found the body of Mauney nearby. At this time, detectives do not believe Mauney knew the suspects.

Heavily Armed Man Breaks Into Home Over Mistaken Belief Of Child Sex Ring

A North Carolina man was arrested for allegedly breaking into the home of a couple he believed was operating a child sex ring. Terrifying video captured the moment that 29-year-old Tyler Austin Messer stormed into the house of Preston McHone and Billy Brooks in the middle of the night wearing tactical gear and armed with a rifle.

Messer can be seen trying to fire a shot at Billy through a glass door, but his gun misfired.

"As he pulls the trigger, he turns and, in that short turn, he's realizing it didn't go off because he's supposed to, at that point, have shot him and would be turning towards me," McHone told WLOS.

McHone and Brooks hid inside their home until the police arrived. By then, Messer had fled, but authorities were able to locate him the next day.

This is not the first interaction that the couple has had with Messer. He reportedly showed up at their house three times last year, looking for his father, who he believed lived in the house before McHone and Brooks purchased it in 2017.

Court documents reviewed by the Daily Mail show that authorities believe Messer is mentally ill.

"Defendant is mentally ill and has ability to get firearms / is dillusional (sic) / believes that victims kidnapped his father + are involved in sex trafficking. Defendant is very dangerous in current state of mind."

Messer was taken into custody and charged with two counts of trespassing, two counts of stalking, and assault by pointing a gun. Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing, and Messer could face additional charges.

Sparks standoff suspect found dead after injuring two officers and a deputy

    https://mynews4.com/news/local/multi...eat-to-public#

"Two officers and one deputy have been released from the hospital and a suspect is dead after an officer-involved shooting turned into an hours-long standoff in Sparks Friday afternoon.

Sparks police chief Chris Crawforth had a press conference Saturday morning and provided the following details.

Just before 1:40 p.m. on March 29, a Sparks police officer initiated a traffic stop in the 1700 block of Greenbrae Drive. As the officer approached the driver side of the vehicle, the suspect pulled out a handgun and immediately started firing rounds through the window striking a Sparks officer in the shoulder. Chief Crawforth said the suspect fled the scene before crashing into another car at the intersection of Greenbrae Drive and Rock Blvd.

The driver then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Dispatch received information about a person jumping fences in the 1400 block of Greenbrae Drive and Prospect Ave. Officers from Sparks Police, Reno Police and Washoe County Sheriff's Office began investigating the area on foot.

The subject attempted to enter an occupied house but was forced out by the residents inside the home. Officers investigated another residence the suspect was reported to be seen in. When the officers reached the residence, an elderly woman answered and dropped to the floor as the subject started firing from inside the house. A Washoe County deputy was struck and he along with the elderly woman were pulled from the scene.

A second Sparks police officer was struck in the gunfire but was able to remove himself from the scene.

Crawforth said the suspect then left that residence, jumped a fence and entered a different home occupied by another elderly woman. Th female hid from the subject in her home. While the suspect was in the backyard, officers were able to get the elderly resident safely out of her home.

SWAT and a negotiator team showed up and negotiations took place for several hours. On several occasions the subject open fired on the officers outside.

At 10 p.m. on Friday night, entry was made into the residence and the suspect was found dead at the scene.

The two Sparks officers and the one Washoe County deputy were treated for their injuries and since released."

Man chases car burglar, fires gunshot at getaway vehicle shattering passenger-side window, SAPD says
Incident occurred around 3 a.m. at Palo Alto Apartment Homes

SAN ANTONIO – A man who saw someone breaking into his sister’s vehicle chased after him and fired a single gunshot in the parking lot of a South Side apartment complex early Monday morning, according to the San Antonio Police Department.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. at the Palo Alto Apartment Homes in the 10100 block of State Highway 16 South, not far from Loop 410 and Palo Alto College.

According to police, officers were called to the apartment complex after receiving word of a shooting. Officers say a man told them that someone was trying to steal his sister’s vehicle. The man heard glass shattering and he left his apartment to find someone attempting to break into the driver-side window of the vehicle.

Police said the man chased after the suspect, who then got into a car that was waiting for him. The man fired a gunshot at the vehicle, breaking the passenger-side window.

The suspect and his female driver fled the area and have not been found. SAPD said they searched the area for clues and processed the scene, but so far, no arrests have been made.

A preliminary police report states that there were no calls for gunshot victims immediately following the incident.
The investigation into the shooting and break-in is ongoing, police said.

    He Had a What?

"Cambridge Police are reporting some details on the incident with the police officer and self-discharging gun at Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School yesterday."

Nobody injured, just your usual gunshot in the crapper, but the lead line is worth noting.
    Pretty good headline, too:

"Police in Cambridge say officer had just taken off his gun so he could go and it went off"
