There is an interesting discussion in some educational social media as to whether teachers are required to take a bullet for their students. Should it be part of their training? We are discussing if the SRO was lacking for not engaging. Is the teacher lacking if they don't charge or cover their students with their bodies? That's the problem. At Virginia Tech, a professor held the door shut and was killed by rounds fired through it. Does the teacher have the responsibility to do it. Morally? If the shooter is outside, can Ms. Play-do or Coach Feetball dive out of the window and leave the little ones to their fate? Should it be officially part of their duties to take go unarmed H2H (or using the Ninja Ipad of Death) with the shooter?
If we do officially arm teachers, do they run to sound of cannons? Or might their responsibility to hunker down and protect where they are? If just allowing CCW as a private citizen - one could argue it is their choice as being a CCW type in the mall or house of worship as a private citizen.
Saw an armed teacher who was willing to talk in Colorado. He had what looked like a Glock 43 in an ankle holster unchambered. The school said it had to be unchambered. Not optimal - wonder if the principal press checks his or her staff each morning? Wait for it - Bang!
