Thread: A retro .45

    A retro .45

I just traded into an old S&W 645, with 3 mags. These were only made a few years (1985-1988). For those not familiar these were (are) 2nd Gen, single stack 8+1 .45s.

Cool old school .45. Now all I need is an alligator named Elvis and a Ferrari.

Thought about one of those. The staged DA pull and unobtanium parts stopped me. Besides, a black man driving a sportscar through Miami with a .45 connotes a far more inferior franchise then Miami Vice.

In Bad Boys Martin Lawrence used a 4506.

While the gun was close, the whole "Bad Boys" movie will never be as 1980s cool as Miami Vice. I can still hear the intro music and see the bikinis!

I had one of them.. I still remember the serial#0948.. I bought it in of all places a Wal-Mart in Okeechobee Fla.. They had about 6 that the sporting goods mgr found in the safe.. The story behind that was, that the former SG mgr would get guns in and she'd just put them out on the shelves to sell, not once during the 5 yrs she was there did she open up the safe in the back. Well, she left, and the first thing the new SG mgr does is open the safe up and see what's in there, and he found all these 645's just sitting there in the safe, some had adjustable rear sights. That was about 1988..$500 and I was escorted out the door... A few years later, I had the safety in the slide break, and took it to S&W reapir station here in OH, Cherry Corners gunshop, The guy that ran the place was pretty grouchy, but he did fix it, He didn't think much of the 645.. A few years later, I sold it, really don't miss it as it was huge for a .45..

OP: if you're interested, I have factory 645 mag I'd like to sell it's SS with metal baseplate..PM me if interested..

The story behind the SW 645 is pretty neat, Tom Campell, Supergun, etc.

Didn't Michael Chiklis use one when he played Vic Mackey in The Shield?

A friend of mine had its descendant, a S&W 4506, and we fired it a lot. Good gun, solid, reliable and accurate.
    I much prefer a good 1911, though.

Michael Chiklis used a 4506-1 in his portrayal of Vic Mackey up until season 7, when he was running around with a Deagle. Somewhere in there I remember him carrying a j frame as a BUG, 640 I think

I have a 4506, which must be a very early version based on your listed dates for the 645, as I think I bought it in 1988.

Whenever I get the feeling a Government Model 1911 is too big, I break out the 4506. Those full size S&W TDA autos in .45 Auto are big guns.
