If we have to march off into the next world, let us walk there on the bodies of our enemies.

Tact is the knack of making a point without making an enemy / Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Eons ago I worked at United Technologies in the engineering department. I kept noticing this guy who had a desk near me who kept coming in later and leaving earlier every day. Then skipping days. This progressed over many months to I kid you not he showed up on the 15th and the last day of the month to collect a paycheck. If you blinked you missed him. The two things a wondered were what dirt he had on his boss and how many companies he was doing this at?
That (sort of) happens in academia more than one would want to admit. I can think of at least 5 people who, at one time or another, were teaching just a single 3-5 credit course (or a couple of 2-3 credit classes) and pulling high 5 figure to low 6 figure incomes. And that’s just the people that I was on a first name basis with and saw all the time. I’d assume that there were others.
