What was the last TV Show or Movie you saw, and did you like it?

We just got back from the theaters seeing “Abigail”. It was a really fun watch, better than expected. My IMDb rating was 7/10.

The young actress that played Abigail was amazing. First thing my wife said to me afterwards, she’s going places.

Saw it last night and enjoyed it. First time I've seen Melissa Barrera that I'm aware of. She darling. I agree that Abigail (Alisha Weir) will go far!

The last couple of seasons focusing on Ivar the Boneless lost me. Up until then it was great.
The show had some seriously hot babes in it lead by Katheryn Winnick.

Funny how that link leads to her director's reel. And the first clip on it is from... Vikings! it's true: EVERYBODY wants to direct.

I'd forgotten I'd seen this in 2013 or 2014. I didn't remember much about it so I kept watching. It's got Liev Schreiber and Olivia Williams in it. My experience has been that anything either of there in was worth watching. This, not so much. It's a Zombie movie set on Mars.
You've got better things to do with an hour and a half of your life.

We Were the Lucky Ones

It's an eight episode mini series on Hulu. It's so similar to a book I recently finished, "On Sunny Days We Sang." that I first thought it was a TV adaptation of it. But I don't think it is. It's just similar stories about this horrible time in history.
It starts in 1938 Poland, just before the Nazi invasion. People watched in disbelief as things kept getting worse. The most innocuous and innocent decisions often had life and death consequences.
The last, and I believe final, episode will be available at 11:00 pm tonight. (5/1/2024) As I watch what is happening on college campuses across the country, the show is eerily timely.
It's a good, if disturbing, watch.

Caught up on some TV while Guerrera was out of town

I'm going to be a big boy and revise some things I've said before. I had been recommending the Netflix/Disney+ "Daredevil" series, however this was based on only seeing the first season (which is still pretty darn good). I tried to watch the second season and, well... it's not great. I didn't even get through episode 5 and I felt like I was wasting my precious time. Un-favorited. Decided to not even start "The Punisher" either. Sorry, folks, I was overcome with nostalgia for the Frank Miller run on the comics, on which they based the TV version.

Guerrera and I watched "Shogun." I had read the book about 30 years ago, and used to be a "samurai-phile", so I pretty much knew what was going on, but Guerrera had a very difficult time following the story. I enjoyed it a lot, while Guerrera just wanted to see what happened to Mariko. The phrase "the moment of clouds and rain" has now become one of our favorite euphemisms. Oh, by the way: recommended.

"The Gray Man" on Netfilx. Ryan Gosling stars as "Sierra Six," a CIA operative/asset/assassin who becomes expendable after being used as a pawn in some dirty dealings, and now needs to use his "special set of skills" to save his old boss and boss's neice (to whom he has an emotional attachment). Made by the Russo brothers, who did "Captain America: Winter Soldier" (which I love) and other Marvel movies. It's all pretty predicable, and Gosling does a decent job, but Chris Evans (who played Captain America in the Marvel movies) seems to be having a ball as the sociopathic douchebag "independent contractor" Lloyd, whom the CIA brings in to eliminate Six. It was worth my time, and I was entertained. I'm not sure if it was planned or ad-libbed, but at one point, Lloyd says the line, "$10M to the first one to put a bullet in this Ken doll." I laughed.

I used to be a comic geek, so I tried out Netflix's "The Sandman." I'm three episodes in, and it's maintaining my interest. I read the comics back in the day, so some of the race/gender/sexuality swapping of some of the characters seems unnecessary, but it's otherwise a decent effort so far. I'll keep watching for now.

I enjoyed The Grayman too. When the first notes of the soundtrack song "Silverbird" played, I had one of those memory cascades(Like Trinity downloading UH1 pilot skills) and realized I hadn't heard that song in 52 years..and remembered the lyrics.

I like Gosling's work and highly recommend The Nice Guys, which he did with Russell Crowe. They had excellent chemistry and comic timing together.
