Thread: A Tale of Two Boxes of M882 ball

  1. #11
So the two boxes are very close in age, 1994 and 1996. This would seem to give credence that the white box stuff is not the same as true M882.

I just got home and it turns out I only have only 14 rounds of WCC11C049-030 (2011 production). Hopefully I will have the chance to run them through my M9 and see how they compare.

I've chrono'd M882 that was running about 1350FPS out of a G19 10-11 years ago. It was pushing close to 1500FPS out of a 10" Colt SMG. I wouldn't have believed it if I wouldn't have seen the chrono results myself. I'm not sure how it had been stored or what the deal was but it really can be all over the place.

In my testing it seems to be about 4+", 5 shot ammo at 25 yards from Glocks. I've also had lots that shot horribly out of a MP5SD and other lots that shot great. Again, I'm sure this varies widely.

The last interesting point is that when I was zeroing a dot sight on a Glock several years ago that 882 consistently shot about 2" to the right of Speer 124gr Gold Dot +P.

Like Doc's testing shows, it's all over the place.

My bet is that most cheap range ammo isn't that variable.

I finally had a chance to run my ammo through the crony and this is what I came up with. I used three types of 124gr ball.
Winchester white box (USA9MM), Winchester “NATO” (Q4318), and M882 WCC11C049-030. All fired from a Beretta M9.

    M882 Avg 1181 High 1209 Low 1155

    Winchester NATO Q4318 Avg 1167 High 1200 Low 1150

Winchester white box USA9MM Avg 1094 High 1120 Low 1041
