Thread: New 9mm owner

    New 9mm owner

Just purchased my first 9mm firearm and I need a few suggestions for preferred target and self defense rounds. If everyone could post one brand, grain, and type that they use for both target, and self defense, it would be greatly appreciated. I will more than likely buy multiple boxes of the most favored and try them out for myself to find what fits me best. Thanks y'all

Welcome Mike. I'm a newbie too.

For target ammo, I order remanufactured rounds from Freedom Munitions, usually the 500 round quantity:

    www.freedommunitions.com

    I use the 124 gr.

For Self Defense ammo, you can't go wrong with any ammo on Doc's list:

I am currently using the Remington Golden Sabre +p 124 round. I am about out of that, so I have a couple boxes of Speer Gold Dot 124 standard pressure HP to try.

The reason I ordered the normal vs. +p is 1) availability (I can't seem to find the +p) and 2) my wife and I share the pistol so I am ok with her not shooting the +p round. At any rate, per Doc, the standard pressure load is 'ok' but the +p performs better, so it's on the list, apparently.

I like the 124 gr +P as well, as it seems to be the weight/pressure that is most accurate through my MP9FS. Nothing ultra-scientific here, but my longer-range firing (i.e., over 20 yds) shows the smallest, most accurate groups with this ammo spec.

For just range use, my favorite is Whatever's On Sale.

I can explain it to you. I can’t understand it for you.

I hate it when I have to resort to that stuff; it means I'm out of some component or other!

My cheapness in ammo is only outmatched by my laziness.
