A reminder about the French (requires reading but worth it)

Contrary to conventional American wisdom, the French liked to fight. I accompanied them when they, Afghan troops and a handful of Americans invaded a Taliban-held valley. Despite comments from people who have no actual experience with them, French troops don’t run from a contact. They like to advance toward the enemy and shoot. A lot.

Cool. The Danes too from what I have gathered.

Plenty of intel analysis has similiarly reported that regardless of differences the public political leadership of the US and France may suggest from time to time; French intelligence has long been one of the CIAs closest partners.

Great read. It sounds like the French treat their soldiers like adults and don't sweat the small stuff. What a concept.

First used to describe the British in WW1 but an apt description for most armies on and off throughout history.

The Danes can fight. Check out "Armadillo" on Netflix. Excellent documentary which follows a Danish infantry company in Helmand, Afghanistan for their tour in 2009, IIRC.

If Chris Hernandez isn't a regular read, you're missing out. Dude can write outstandingly well and has his feces aggregated into a tiny little ball.
    Books. Bikes. Boomsticks.

I can explain it to you. I can’t understand it for you.

In Indo China and Algeria, the French paratroops, Marines, and Foreign Legion troops, as well as some of their armor, were outstanding. DeGaulle reigned that initiative in after the coup attempts, but the elite units of the French army tend to be very good. They also have had a lot of experience being involved in hidden wars in Africa.

The French political and intellectual classes are probably even more bankrupt than ours, but they've had some very fine solders for the past 70 years.
