Happened upon a video on youtube of Mirages flying almost on top of each other. Googled the movie cited as the source of the footage and found this on wiki:

Les Chevaliers du Ciel was filmed in co-operation with the French Air Force. Initially the standard safety rules applied, but eventually the minimum allowed altitude was reduced to 3 m (10 ft) and the minimum distance between aircraft was reduced to 1 m (3 ft).[citation needed]

Turns out the full French version of Sky Fighters 2005 is on youtube, and while I do not parlez-vous français, I am pretty sure from what I did understand that the plot is not a strong point of the film but the flight sequences are reminiscent of Iron Eagle that film that Archer seems to like.

Les Chevaliers du Ciel used to be a popular comic book in the 70s over there which probably explains the plot problems (btw, I haven't watched the linked youtube video, it's too long)
