Not trying to be argumentative, but:

When this happened to me, I was unable to even access this site, period. As a result, I could not PM a mod or admin using the forum resources. I also didn't happen to know site admin or mod email addresses, since I would need to log in. Kind of a Catch 22, if you see what I mean?

Afterwards, back at home, I could again access the site, but by that point, the opportunity to use ip2location.com or similiar locating tools is kind of lost. Meaning, I can't do what you recommend here, because, well, when it happens, you can't.

Now, granted I'm no interweb guru, and I am probably missing something obvious. If so, what would I do differently?

Well, I'm glad it wasn't me. As far as using a phone. When I'm traveling, I use laptop to do a lot of work - so not logging into a site is a pain.

Does the name Lodgenet ring a bell? I think that's who Marriott uses for guest networks. I'll see if they're blocked.

Their allocations are (at a minimum):
    Networks
    LODGENET (NET-204-124-120-0-1) 204.124.120.0 - 204.124.123.255
    LODGENET (NET-64-250-231-0-1) 64.250.231.0 - 64.250.231.63
    LODGENET (NET-64-250-231-64-1) 64.250.231.64 - 64.250.231.127
    LODGENET (NET-64-75-200-192-1) 64.75.200.192 - 64.75.200.255
    LODGENET (NET-64-75-249-56-1) 64.75.249.56 - 64.75.249.63
    LODGENET (NET-72-21-230-128-1) 72.21.230.128 - 72.21.230.159
    None of those are blocked.

    I'll PM you my address.
Thanks, I travel a good bit, and yes that does sound familiar. It may be a Marriott thing.

Unlikely to be the issue in the hotel at Landstuhl, but I won't be back there, most likely.

    Genuinely appreciate the help.

If you get blocked, go to http://whatismyipaddress.com and save the output. Email it to yourself and send it to myself or JV via PM from your phone (if it's not on the hotel wireless) or save it to send to us when you're not on a blocked IP address.
