That's it. I was at the San Francisco Mariott Marquis for the American Society For Criminology. The hotel's IP seemed blocked. All other gun things worked? That's strange.
Someone on staff hate Mariott?

We're aggressive with blocking IPs, sometimes there's collateral damage. Next time, when you're connected and have an issue with a banned IP, PM a staff member with the public IP: http://whatismyipaddress.com
When I have that issue, I just use the app on my phone to access the forum.
I have this happen just about all the time when I am on the road, even in otherwise normal countries that one might not expect an issue from. And between this, and the communist thought control regulations of mandatory censorware in many countries, just about kills my ability to participate in many interesting threads.
Some might call that an improvement (grin).... but on the other hand, it is probably not just me, but a lot of other folks that might just have something worthwhile to say now and again.
Yup, we're even more ruthless with IP bans from other countries, especially ones with IP addresses allocated from APNIC and AFRINIC.
I'm sorry that it's in inconvenience for you, but there's no denying that the vast majority of our participants are from the US, and the vast majority of our spammers have come from IP addresses outside of the US. We've had spamming incidents that were bad enough that we couldn't delete the accounts fast enough, and we had to shut down registration. For a long while, other than one or two here and there, we're fairly spam free.
If you want, you can always email a staff member (ask for their email via PM), and send us your IP address abroad, we can look at excluding some IPs from the ban.
Interesting.
This has happened to me, recently, twice.
Once was at the Albuquerque Marriott in September, and this month at a hotel in Landstuhl, Germany.
Kinda freaked me out when it happened; at first I thought I had been spam banned lol.
I totally get why it's necessary; I'm a super mod on a fancy pants German car vBulletin forum and am pretty familiar with dealing with spam bots on an ongoing basis. No problem with how y'all need to handle it.
I stayed at Marriott in Toledo last month and it was ip ban as well.
For another example, I, too was blocked when staying at a DFW Marriott.
We would prefer actionable data such as PMs or emails with the blocked IP addresses, gents. If you don't tell us what the blocked IP address, don't post because we can't help you.
