Fwiw I think the PSA bundle is not the nato version, steyr has special black magazines for 300 blk that work with the regular waffle mag well.

I haven't paid too much attention to the new aug other than having the video on in the background while I was doing something else. From what I remember the top rail looked nice, but I'd want to make sure I could still access the gas block for suppressed shooting and didn't lose the quick change barrel option (they might have addressed this in the james reeves video but I wasn't paying super close attention)

Shouldn't be too hard to find someone on the various forums that would want to trade or buy it outright. MGW has 16" barrels for $525 ($498 if you qualify for their Mil/First Responder discount)

Not really thrilled about the factory optic.

    Thoughts?

Steyr USA is having a sale on their barrels. $449 plus S&H for the 14.5", 16", and 20" 5.56x45 barrels.
Rumor on Reddit has it that Steyr is currently testing 1/7 twist barrels for production including a 20" heavy marksmans profile barrel. One poster said he's shot that barrel and it's sub-MOA with 77 gr bullets.

    You don’t need a 1/9 20” barrel when 1/7 are coming.

That is the truth. I was able to resist getting a .300 BK barrel, too.

Steyr Factory Visit, Aug Armorer, Light/Laser, Aug Operator

I spent April 25 -28, 2024 at Steyr HQ in Bessemer, AL and with Steyr staff at Talladega Marksmanship Park. This was time very well spent. Here are some high points:

HQ/Factory Visit I spent several hours at Steyr HQ and factory in Bessemer, AL. The facility is what you would expect - modern, clean, and efficient. 1/7 twist 223 barrels are in production. The hamer forged barrels are contoured and chambered in Bessemer. 300 BO barrels are also in production. Steyr spent considerable time ensuring that these barrels will work well with all 300 BO ammo - both sub and supersonic. I shot some 300 BO from a suppressed AUG and it is very, very quiet - especially with the gas system shut off. Good stuff.

AUG Armorer I also took the half-day AUG Armorer class instructed by Brian Marshall. I highly recommend taking this class from Brian if you're an AUG guy. Brian knows the AUG inside and out and presents the material in a very professional way. Being new to the AUG, I was greatly impressed by the modularity of this rifle. It has features well ahead of its time. As for recommended modifications, several are worthwhile. First, get the red spring kit from Steyr. It will drop trigger weight 2 - 3 lbs ish. I also suggest a new charging handle from Manticore or Corvus Defensio. The Corvus can be tricky to install. Both work. You might also consider the Corvus case deflector and mag release - although they are far from necessary.

RDS/Laser Brian also instructed a half-day pistol RDS/Laser class. Brian made an interesting argument for pistols to be fitted with iron sights and a light/laser combination. He made some good points that I plan to test further on my home range.

AUG Operator The 2-day AUG Operator class was the high point. If I recall correctly, we had 12 ish students of various ages and abilities. We covered all the essentials first and then went to the fun stuff - movers, long distance, etc. The AUG has upsides and downsides vis a vis the AR. Some malfunctions are clearly easier to clear in an AUG. Mag changes in the AUG are slower. The AUG has a much more compact form factor. The AUG mags are very robust - although I found the 42 round mag to be a bit too tall when in prone. We had a metric butt load of AUGS - see below. All in all, an excellent class.

Some times, I just get lucky. 600 yard target with 55 grain blasting ammo from 16" 1/9 twist barrel. X ring is 6".

The class was conducted at CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park: https://thecmp.org/ranges/talladega-marksmanship-park/. This is a truly excellent facility. Mandatory disclaimer: I serve on the CMP board of directors.

Steyr is doing some great things. I highly recommend you look to Steyr and the AUG for quality products and training.

    Nice write-up. [emoji106]

I'm signed up for the AUG Operator's course later this month. Brian offered the Armorer's Course with an LE discount for the following Monday, but I'm unable to take off work.

Is this a retail display at their HQ available that's available to the public, or just storage for warranty and website sales? I'm local (across town) to them but have never been by their place.
