Low self esteem by Offspring. That song always gets me going.

Back in my band days we used to start with some of "Self Esteem" and work into "The Kids Aren't Alright" to get things moving. Never failed. Solid songs.
    Think for yourself. Question authority.

For some stuff, I get really conceptual.

This song helps me to imagine a post-industrial world in which we've reverted to some kind of violent, tribal existence. I like to think about the possibility of a cyclical nature to society, that is: we're at the high point now, and it will all grind down eventually.

I find this to be a helpful image for motivating me to practise stuff that's basically useless in the cushy, safe, Canadian city in which I live.
This is a thread where I built a boat I designed and which I very occasionally update with accounts of using it, which is really fun as long as I'm not driving over logs and blowing up the outboard.

    "Can't Repeat" as well.
I'm a 80s metal/90s alt/rock/pop punk guy mostly so my go-to songs are flavored accordingly:
    Sabotage - Beastie Boys
    Ace of Spades - Motorhead
She Sells Sanctuary - The Cult
Anything off of Mindcrime - Queensryche
All My Life - Foo Fighters (if there's not an ECQC highlight video set to this there should be).
Dammit and Stay Together for the Kids- Blink 182
Lots of others but those are always on the list. Some touch on my particular neuroses, some just sound good really loud :-)

Also there's apparently a difference between "psych up" music and music that really touches your inner.. whatever. The Greeks called it your thumos:

I don't like getting amped up. I never shoot as well if I try to get amped. After the first couple times at shoots, I gave it up.

Totally agree. Shooting is more of a head game for me, than an exercise in assertiveness. I'd probably do better at, say, ECQC, with a little heavy metal fluff beforehand...

I'm liking Volbeat's stuff for workout music. Good rock.

Anything from the In Search of Sunrise compilations, esp Richard Durand. My favorite is India. Great listening for long plane rides.
