I used to say, "whatever they give me", now it's whatever I can find that's on The List.

Currently that is 147gr Remington GS or Hornady 135gr +P Critical Duty in 9mm; 230gr Ranger in .45. I still have a lot of Federal 00 Tactical that was "given" and Brenneke slugs that weren't.

So I carry a .40 and usually keep my ammo concurrent to what we're issued at the time.
    1.) Speer GDHP 180gr.
    2.) Speer GDHP 165gr.
    3.) Federal HST 180gr.
    4.) Federal HST 165gr.
    5.) Speer GDHP 155gr.

I've used Winchester Ranger in the past but had a few FTFire, weak loads that caused me concern. They were sporadic, maybe 3 or 4 rounds out of 2000 but I've never had issues with Speer or Federal (knock on wood).

    For my J-Frame I carry 148gr. Wadcutters or Speer GDHP 135gr. +P.

Right at the moment I am using the following 5 loads, mainly because they met the above criteria:

.38 sp 148 gr wadcutters in my J-frame
9 mm 147 gr HST in my G19
12 ga #1 Flight Control buckshot in my 870 w/1 oz Brenneke slugs on the side saddle
5.56 mm 62 gr TBBC in my AR15
    .308 155 gr AMAX in my M1A

That might change at any future moment depending on what is readily available...
Sure would like to know where those loads are available in case lot quantity at a reasonable price...

    9mm: 124 grain GoldDot.
    45: 230 grain GoldDot.

Both in the standard pressure offerings.

I suppose if I couldn't find that it would be HST's in similar weights.

They all were issued to me, so were the best kind of ammo--free...

    What I avoid:
Anything Cor-Bon (Reliability and poor cust svc)
Remington Golden Saber (Jacket separation sometimes)

    Cody

Any reliability problems with Corbon DPX 110 +P 38spl ?

Really the jacket core separation with handgun ammo never bothered me ! As long as Penetration and upset is met I'll deal with it.
BTW The GS Bonded in the test Ive seen hangs on to its jacket

Glad to see that Im not the only guy who likes the 148WC in a J frame.
Not to long ago I mention that I use the 148WC on a popular forum and some thought I was crazy?? Stating that the 148WC doesn't have enough penetration .

Down the road from Quantrill's big raid.
The target WCs excel at penetration, in gel at least, obviously not so much in steel, etc.

A few weeks ago during an ATK gel shoot I dumped a Remington 148gr "Target" WC through four layers of denim and an 18" gel block. I'd file that under "P for plenty".
