5.11 Tactical Select Carry Sling Pack

    Anyone used this particular bag?

I've been looking for something in between a backpack and a full-fledged manpurse/messenger bag for carrying laptops/tablets, etc to and from work. This looks like it might fit the bill. The front strap pouch is mostly a nice bonus in my eyes, though not something I have to have.

It's not a terrible bag, but not my favorite either. Sling bags put a lot of weight on one shoulder (as does a messenger bag), but if that's not a concern, it's quite great. I actually use the RUSH Delivery (a messenger bag, I know... ironic) and love it. 5.11 makes some great stuff.

    Best of luck!

I've not been too impressed with 5.11 quality on their nylon gear. It just doesn't seem too heavy duty, but I guess that may be because I'm used to Kifaru gear and other US made nylon gear. After looking at the pack, I think you might be better served by a Maxpedition Monsoon Gearsliger, http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/...inger-2p11.htm
I had one and it was a tough piece of kit, just another idea for your consideration.

I have this one. Tough as nails. http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/...ger-2p1566.htm
The 5.11 is good because it looks less taticool. However, it seems you need the other pack to have your pistol with you. I can't speak to 5.11 quality but I have two maxpedition bags. My buddies have several as well. Very good quality.

The Maxpedition Gearslinger series are outstanding. Highly recommended.

I picked one of these up in a sale a while back, and have used it very little. I don't much like off-body pistol carry, but I was thinking it might make a good hiking pack to conceal an SBR. It's just a wee bit too small to comfortably hold a broken-down 16" AR, and it's on the ragged edge for a side-folder 12" AK (depends on what flash hider/brake you have). I like the fact that it's not at all tacticool (and I wish Maxpedition would produce some stuff along this route), but I'd wish for just an inch or two more room.

The other thing I found is that the strap goes right at my 9-o'clock where I carry my spare ammo, causing it to print and bind, which kind of defeats the purpose of a discreet bag.

Finally, the design effectively prohibits transitions. To get to the long gun, you have to rotate the bag around to your chest and then deploy the long gun, which is affixed to a single-point sling mount inside the bag. At that point, your pistol is behind your back, inaccessible. I suppose you could put some pistol mag carriers on the molle webbing inside the bag and run your pistol at a 3-o'clock position with your belt otherwise slick.

All in all, it's a niche product, and I think for what it's designed to do (allow concealed carry of an SBR or subgun) it works better than most things I've seen, but not many people have that niche.

I've been wanting to get my hands on this bag from Snigel Design, but I can't find a US distributor. I did a months-long runaround with MSA Paraclete, who were supposed to be importing them 'soon', but the contact I was given left the company.

    Serious necropost. Apologies

My agency has provided us with various medical supplies...and put them all in a Ziploc bag. IMO, the Ziploc bag is not a practical way to be carrying these supplies. I have found the Maxpedition Jumbo Type "S" to fulfill a 'go-bag' roll and place these medical supplies as well as spare ammo, etc. The 5.11 series doesn't look to durable from the videos I've seen in comparison to the Maxpedition.

Anyone have experience with these bags?

    I went with these bags:

    http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/

But it was the only messenger bag I could find with a sleeve for a 17 inch laptop.

I also looked at these, and would of went with reload if I knew it would fit a 17 inch laptop:

Lots if different sizes so you can pick your size of man bag.

If you will be carrying the bag for less than 30 to 45 minutes at a time, then a messenger bag will be fine. I'd be looking at a backpack it you are carrying things for longer periods.

Maxpedition is too tactical looking for how I roll.

Yes, and with several of the variants. They are GTG for build quality. They have nuances in functionality will vary by preference and gear choice/placement. I also like the Tactical Tailor Crossfire concealed carry pack, as well as the old Sneaky Bags. Both work well for a mags/IFAK type go-bag.

Good. Our mandatory training this year included a block on Officer Safety: The first 5 minutes. We practiced tourniquets and other techniques. After class we were given gauze infused with clotting agent immediately. Last week they provided more items in a large ziploc bag...which creates an issue of how to carry it during an event. Ive been looking at this bag and the "LE" version. The LE version is out of stock everywhere so I ordered the jumbo S type.

Hopefully, my department will see this bag or the LE version and buy everybody one. The ziploc bag just isn't very practical at all.

Honestly, after watching the video of the Albuquerque incident involving Tom's wife it has gotten most of the guys I work with in gear. Seeing her in that condition, even though I never have met her, upset me to no end. I also let folks see the X-ray of her with the tourniquet on. It has opened some eyes.
