I primarily use a retention holster for 3-gun competition and when riding my dual-sport motorcycle offroad in remote areas.
Not all retention holster requirements are the same.

Just checked, and the GLS for the G17 is cut such that a Glock with an RMR (rear reserve sight in front of optic) fits without modification.
The new 7000 series for a G17 and X300 also fits the pistol without the light mounted.

Back when I was running an 070 in uniform, the 0701 was just the ticket for open carry in soft clothes. I think I still have one squirreled away somewheres.
