CQB-E Refinishing, Part 1 - The Slide
And some other pics -
First, the finished product quality control coupons.
These will be tested for corrosion resistance, then for wear resistance before the slides/guns/parts are shipped back or tested.
CQB-E for a customer in Miami (has acidic sweat also, so corrosion resistance was requirement #1). After discussing, we settled on a modified TNT-Black (a little nicety in being the guy who developed the chemistry of the coating - I can tailor it to suit the customer). So we went with a high phos nickel-tungsten base coat, followed by a medium BN content low phos nickel only top coat, heat treated to a Vickers of 950. Before heat treating, they were blackened to what you see here.
QC panels just taken from the bath, and still wet.
Now his $4k Wilson will not wear, will be self lubricating, and will never corrode.
Cheers!
