    Chromebook

Does anyone out there regularly use a Chromebook? Do you have any complaints?

I need to get a small, inexpensive, and portable machine. I looked at full laptops running Windows, but the Chromebook interests me because of the simplicity.

The model I've been eyeing is the Samsung Chromebook 2 13".

I had one of the originals. No complaints for your usage requirements. The battery life is good, some things like mass storage work better than you would think for that OS. Google updates the OS frequently and doesn't have a habit of breaking things with the updates.

Is it better to get a cheap laptop and throw chromiumOS on there, or get an official Chromebook?

I don't see the point of the former. I'd prefer having hardware and OS integration for battery life and the official Chromebooks are quite cheap. You sound like you want something for surfing, not tinkering with.

I have, but the screen sizes aren't what I'm looking for, I want a 13+" screen. And I haven't considered the Chromebook 14 because of the (reported) subpar screen.

Yea, I haven't seen any data points on how the converted laptops work for the details of an OS, like bat life.

A quick search shows a few 14" Chromebooks like the HP.

The Chromebook 14 has a low resolution screen, it looks grainy.

Yeah, I don't blame you. My Retina equipped Macbook Pro has spoiled me for everything else.
