    Pre-Black Salient G17

Can't blacken the PTFE containing finish, so this one's built in lubrication is hexagonal boron nitride. Same nickel-tungsten base coat for wear/corrosion resistance, but with a nickel-moly top coat w/ HBN for looks. The molybdenum was picked over the tungsten because it give a richer black.

Will heat treat tonight, and blacken tomorrow.

Everyone who sent in a mag will have this finish (they were done in the same batch as the Salient pistol).

Got me. I didn't do it.

    I'd figure it's a job ID number.

Salient (and other stuff) turned black:

    The Salient turning black:

    Some guys SIG mags.

HK mags, SIG mags, test coupon, and Salient G17 slide.

Back on the frame - totally devoid of oil other than finger print smudges (that's why it looks a little glossy in some areas).

After wiping down with a silicon rag.

The coating was our standard nickel composite with boron nitride as the dry lube.

Will this black coating be available for aluminum frames/parts. I have a set of old, white Sig aluminum grips that I would love to have plated instead of cerakoted. Need an aluminum test mule?

The black was developed for aluminum. Specifically, for DI ARs.

Bill; tried to PM you but your inbox is full.

How do you think your finishes would work on S&W revolvers. Thinking specifically Black.
