Firearms trainer interview – John Johnston

One of the things that I often mention is that the training community needs to expand into distance education. John Johnston's radio show, Ballistic Radio, reaches 25,000 people each week. Many of them will never attend any training class. But regular listeners of his show get a weekly one hour education experience from trainers such as Paul Sharp, William Aprill, Craig Douglas, Massad Ayoob, Greg Ellifritz, and myself. I think that has a lot of value. Maybe more value than going to one in-person training class, never getting any refresher training, and then forgetting everything you were taught a month later.

He records a podcast of each show. The link to the podcasts is at the bottom of the article.

When I give private lessons, if I need to demo, I use the student's gun. That way they don't think I'm using a tricked out SCCY to be able to shoot well.

Down the road from Quantrill's big raid.
I am very happy to see John getting the big name guests on his show, and to see the show doing so well. I know that there are lots of other trainers out there, but it often takes a "hook" to get people to listen, and then it becomes a habit.

Definitely agree with Chuck. I have friends who are interested, but not "gun people". John's show gets them thinking, and they can listen to the podcasts in the gym or on their commute. We usually end up going into more in-depth discussion on a lot of the topics.

So thanks very much for making folks think and ask questions!
