Independent test shows it to be about as effective as a .22 LR.
Haha.. great video.
This means I have a reason to start carrying that old Davis Industries .22 derringer.
One round of each... The gun costs less than a box of r.i.p. and does the same damage so I am G2G
Part 2 of STB410's RIP test. RIP vs. HST.
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_27b9P0...ture=c4-feed-u
I note that the HST ammo used is 9mm 124gr standard pressure, which is noticeably missing from DocGKR's good-to-go list. Makes me wonder if the deficiencies seen in the HST used in STB's video are reduced or eliminated with the +P version.
For me, the most surprising result of his testing was that the RIP round lived up to any of the hyperbolic claims on their website. There's still no way I'm going carry it in my gun in place of proper defense ammo. Based on some of the stuff my HKs have done to substandard ammo over the years (e.g. chewing pieces off of aluminum Blazer cases) I'd probably end up with "trocars" falling out on the shooting bench when I changed mags.

The comment on the R.I.P. video about this projectile functioning like a 'hole saw' really got me... how do you get that from a projectile that only makes one revolution every 9 inches of forward travel???
I have had 3 different acquaintances ask me if this load is good... REALLY, FOLKS???
Back when I was just an apple-cheeked lad and all this whole area was still orchards, people used to say the same thing about "Black Talons." They expanded and created a circular saw blade, which spun and cut its way through the body. And then cut the fingers of the surgeons fishing them out of the bullet wounds by hand, because, as a friend noted on Facebook recently, surgical forceps were not in wide use in the 1990s.
Apparently.
