I suspect Argylle is going to suck. Not previewing it for the critics is a bad sign. And the actors are out flogging it as though it was a Medicare Advantage plan.

"The 3 Burials of Melquiades Estrada." 2005 flick directed by Tommy Lee Jones. Very offbeat modern western. I think I like it. Generally most any flick with TLJ in it is worth the watch.
Spoiler alert: Levon Helm (of "The Band" fame) has a small role in this flick.
My wife and I had seen this movie a few times, but watched it again a couple of nights ago. It’s absolutely great!

Yep. It's bad.
From that review:Quote:
I saw more than 100 new movies in 2023. Not one of them was as ill-conceived or as stunningly awful as “Argylle.” If it were legal, I would camp outside of AMC this weekend and beg people to see any other movie instead of this affront to cinema.
Watched the first episode of Mr. and Mrs. Smith series. Mildly interesting. However, the first gun fight (not with them) was stupid. Another stand out in the open with full autos and hit no one.
Watched a show about scorpions, brought back memories of killing the little monsters in the house in TX.

Cuba Gooding portrays Dr. Ben Carson. It follows his life from a young boy, raised by a single mother to his meteoric success as a gifted surgeon. Have some tissues handy as I'm sure your house will be dusty as you watch it.
When Worlds Collide - 1951

On Prime
We've been locked in for months and are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel TV wise. When we ran across this old movie on Prime, the wife asked about it. She's seen it, but decades ago and didn't remember anything about it. I've seen it dozens of times, but the last time was also decades ago. We watched it again.
I've read the books* so I'll get the obligatory "The Book Was Better." out of the way. However! That doesn't mean the movie wasn't still darn good. Especially for a Sci-F- done in 1951.
While it is a Sci-Fy pic, the real emphasis is on the response of humanity (as a whole) and the individuals in the story to the end of the world. It's very much a psychological work. Some rise to the occasion, others, not so much. Over all, it is very optimistic.
I very much recommend this movie. If you haven't seen it, you'll likely see something you've never seen before. If you have seen it, but it was some time ago, you'll enjoy the return to a more optimistic time. Just don't try to judge it against modern cinema.
* It was originally done as a serial newspaper piece. I've never read those, but did read the book written later. For something conceived in the 1940s, the science is kick @$$. I've also read the sequel "After Worlds Collide." It too was good, but pretty well dated as it was basically a commentary on the Cold War.
I watched Oppenheimer over the weekend. Not great, not terrible, but it's about an hour longer than it needs to be. The last 45 mins or so really drags.
