What’s your alloy and what’s your chamber throat dimensions?
I tried that with COWW alloy in an S&W that probably has .357 throats and stuck one.
They only get fired in my Colt OM and it’s .359 throats.

Alloy is 96 Pb, 2 Sb, 2 Sn as Measured by XRF. My revolvers mostly pre-1965 Colts with .359 throats.
Redding Profile Crimp sizes bullet via compression inside the case, so diameter depends upon case wall thickness.
Beveled front band while unsized, being outside the case, will enter S&W and Ruger .358 throats OK. Have had no issues.
For Old School I would be pretty content to rock these:

A 1950 Target in .45 ACP
A 2.5" Model 19 .357
A 442 J Frame .38
Couple more pics of the skinny barrel 1950 Target. Such a cool old gun.

And for autos,
Your standard 5" Government Model 1911 set up to suit my tastes, as my Baer is,
Plus this 3rd Gen CQB .45 from the Performance Center. It is a Model 4563.
Basically a DA/SA Lightweight Commander. Phenomenal trigger and outstanding accuracy from the hand fitted barrel.

Those would do pretty nicely and keep everything simple, as I could just load for .38 and .45 and load up or down the power scale as needed.

S&W .38 Special
Chuck,
You nailed it.
Thad is retired but he is a big .32 caliber fan. I had sent him some .32 H&R wadcutters. We got to know each other through a mutual friend. Long story short, he built a few rigs that were as you put it "a mash up" of western rig and Rhodesian. He built me one for a 5" Government.
Plus I found out he was a fan of the little .38 Short Colt round.
I used to read about Thad Rybka back when I was in high school, then in the military, then college. Always looking at his stuff in the gun magazines at the time. So to be able to have the opportunity to get to know him and pick up a couple items from him has been a rare treat as far as I am concerned. Incredibly nice guy.
Here is the holster with the 1911.
