Positive write up in Shooting Illustrated this month... Thought it was interesting as a possible scout optic.

What's the difference between Leupold's illuminated reticle and their FireDot?
Yep -- they actually had some factory blems about a week ago, but they went very quickly. I picked up a vx-6 1-6 with lit reticle for about 25% under the street price. Midway seems to have good prices on new ones as well.
That was certainly my motivation for considering the lit reticle. As I mentioned, I don't have much direct experience as the red dots are nearly unusable for me due to bloom. That doesn't seem to be nearly so problematic with the vx-6. In the past, the heavier reticles have been my solution for low light or a dark background.
Is Talley the school solution for QD mounts?
Yes -- especially with some of the less expensive rifle options, there's more of a budget for the optic. Most of my optics have been Zeiss or Swaros in the past: buy once, cry once. The Leupold vx-6 seems to be as good or better in my very unscientific tests so far. Really nice and bright on 1x.
I have a Ruger GSR and a Savage, special order, Stainless M16 Scout, both in 308 with Leupold 2.5 Scout Scopes. I also have two Marlin M1894 LeverScouts in .357 Mag. and 44 Mag, both with the Leupold 2.5 Scout Scopes. These carbine/scope combos work fine but I wish they had illuminated SPC reticles.
I have two other Leupold scopes on M4 style carbines that I really like as general purpose scopes. They are the Mark AR Mod 1 1.5-4 with illuminated SPR and the VX-R Patrol 1.25-4 with illuminated SPR. I also have VX-R 3-9x50 illuminated Duplex on another M4 style rifle in 25-45 Sharps. This is my deer rifle at his time. 3-9 scopes have been top sellers to hunters for a long time. I will probably never buy another scope without an illuminated reticle.

See post #17, although the URL for the scope seems to have changed to:
