My wife and I have been starting most practices lately with a very simple nine round drill. It is three freestyle shots at 20 yards, three right hand only at 15 yards, and three left hand only at 15 yards. No time limit, shoot as tight as you can. Target can be some tape, 3.5x5 label, or anything you choose.
It helps tune up your trigger control with a modest expenditure of cartridges, checks zero on your sighting system, and gives you a feel for the ammo you are shooting.
